Part of it is the team in question and part is the time allowed for

preparation before the game where they lose. First remember that Michigan State has been a thorn in UVA's side; and Izzo having seen the 'pack line' defense in his conference 2-3 times a year (Wisconsin with Dick Bennett as coach) knows how to handle it when they have played UVA (twice, I think) in the tourney. Don't know if you know this but Marquette, under Buzz, played Wisconsin once a year, I believe, and also would scrimmage against them, preseason, some years.
Also, UMBC had most of a week to prepare for the pack line. Had that game been the second round game with only a couple of days to prepare you may have seen a different outcome. Finally, as far as this year's game is concerned, UMBC had absolutely nothing at all to lose and I think the combination of the loss of Hunter and the 'burden' of being the no.1 overall seed was too much for the Hoos along with UMBC's prep time.
Obviously I don't want to see the Hoos win an NC or even get to the final four (I want it to be us) but TB either needs to get a little bit better talent and/or throw the opposition a curve by changing to a more
'convention' style of defense and overall play a couple of times in the tourney.
