comparison before - Tim Settle. Apologies if it was previously discussed.

Obviously Settle's situation isn't the same but I wonder if it was that much different? Maybe Settle came in better conditioned? Even if he too weighed much more than the coaches wanted him to? I thought he was close to 350/360 when he arrived at VT (in terms of size now, Settle's reported at 6'3" @ 329 lbs).

Settle was redshirted bc he wasn't ready to play. I'm sure the coaches were on Goode all the time to try and get him conditioned for play- he obviously had an immediately recent example of Settle getting to the NFL- in DC no less! - to motivate him to keep up the effort. I thought the coaches even said several times that they expected Goode to play this fall.

Maybe Settle had better influencers around to help him stay motivated and want to put up with the same conditioning challenges that Goode faced this year. I can't imagine it would have been that much different for Goode- except that he would have had the extra motivation of possibly even playing at some point this year. Then it just comes down to "want to".

Good luck to him. I hope he sees this as motivation to get into better shape, wherever he ends up.
