Against GT option, D-Line is supposed to eat up blocks and linebackers
make the tackles. It is why the VT MLB would always end up with an extremely high amount of tackles. Foster's defense is always designed to fill the gap and spill the runner to one specific player. If that player is not there, the defense gets gashed. The first time I saw this really play out horribly was against LSU in TT's first year. The more LSU got through, the more other players tried to cover for the new linebackers and only opened up more lanes to run through. Foster's defense works because it really is hard to block all of his players "IF they are in their gaps". When they are not, it is a sieve like last night and you get the "not getting leverage" responses because people are trying to make tackles at angles and not in their gap.
