"Everyone" didn't "write them off"...

I stayed until the end,and longer, as did most of the people around us. By no means was it a "mass exodus." A guy next to us who had driven a long way and had his young family with him did leave. There were forecasts of ice and hazardous conditions. It was cold and the weather had done a 180 on a lot of people. It was almost pleasant at kick-off. It was Blacksburg after dark.

I would like to be able to say we all stayed because we believed with "every fiber of our Hokie beings" that VT would win. But, truth is, we stayed to go down with the ship. Same as Nebraska 2009.

One more thing: You don't know that they all left the building. Lots of people "stage" in the mezzanines on either side of the end zone to catch the last few moments of games for an easier exit..

It was a lot easier to get out of Old Miles Stadium after a game in 1964.

Hokie Hi
