The idea of the spread is to balance out the bets. The bookies want as much


Money bet as possible. They don’t give a hoot who wins because they live off the 10% vig. Sometimes that 1/2 a point will get more people to bet on one side or the other & that’s all they’re doing. Balancing out the money being bet so there is more money played. The more money played the more they make.
