The worst part is that "elite" players will probably make it to the NFL...

...no matter where they play their college football. What recruits should look at is how well does a school turn less than elite players into NFL caliber players. VT excelled at that during the Frank years. We were probably one of the best programs in the country in that regard.

Tim Settle was going to make it into the NFL no matter where he played his college football. The same goes for the majority of players at Bama. They're heading to the NFL, no matter if they're playing for Clemson, VT, or Appalachian State.

If you can push enough snake oil, like Dabo, and convince enough elite players to join your program, you're going to be wildly successful. That doesn't necessarily mean you can coach, but you sure can hire enough guys who know what they're doing to have a successful program.

Coach Fu's challenge is to change the perception of VT from a "good" program, into a "great" program. Recruiting will improve, and we'll no longer be losing players to the PSUs of the world. Once we've reached that point, move it from a "great" program into an "elite" program. The latter is almost impossible, and it takes a lot of luck, skill, and cash. Lots of cash!

I see Coach Fu as a great fit for VT, and VT for him. Lets get this train moving down the tracks, and start picking up momentum to a brighter football future!
