and friend, went to U Va but did not play sports there, and wound up officiating at the high school, ACC, and NFL levels. He also reffed some high school basketball while doing the football gigs. He had some interesting stories to tell about some of the refs. Our oldest son officiates high school and CIAA football, and used to do high school basketball. He has some interesting tales too.
