I wouldn't call it a "strategy."
At most, we'll sign four JUCO players this year. Right now we have commitments from two. Fuente has shown a willingness to plug gaps with JUCOs when he feels like there is a huge need. Would you turn down Jerod Evans again?
With 85 scholarships, and our money and location issues, there will never be a perfectly constructed roster at Virginia Tech. Personally, I think we limited ourselves for over a decade by not trying to fill a gap or two with JUCOs. Remember those years when we were starting ALL freshmen at wide receiver? That was just silly. Go try to find a JUCO, and then maybe you don't have to play Dyrell Roberts before he's ready. The true way to build VT's program is to redshirt as many guys as possible. If signing a few JUCOs every now and then helps us redshirt more freshmen, then I'm all for it.
