I get the frustration and have opined on this plenty but it's not really

up to Whit to tell you which cable or streaming package to get or to identify what channel number the game might be on for your specific package. the issue is that the ACC's affiliate list is hot garbage and not even worth TSL linking above. clicking on one of the website links for an affiliate is even worse. this is the downside of the state of television and streaming today. So many options for distributing a game and none of them have figured out how to easily identify which games you can watch and through what method. I'm honestly not sure why ESPN can't tell you ahead of time that the game you see on the schedule is going to be blacked out. I suspect they honestly want you to find out too late for you to access it so you end up watching another game on their network by default.

Back to the original point - It's hard enough for the cable companies, it would be impossible for whit. you can't simply list a channel number for each market because there are so many RSN's and they each get accessed in different ways depending on how the individual accesses television.

Take basketball for example. VT v BC was also on RSN which meant it was covered by NBC Sports Washington in Richmond. This is a common channel on a lot of cable packages and is fortunately part of my YouTubeTV streaming package. Tonight's game is also on RSN but this time, instead of being on NBC Sports Washington, it is on NBC Sports Washington Plus. This version is not covered by YouTubeTV but would presumably be included in several different cable package options so I am left wondering if it will be blacked out and inaccessible without needing to free-trial another service.

The HOPE is that releasing the linear channel for ACC Network in 2019 also involves less (or the elimination of) distribution of game coverage through a RSN. If it's not on the ACC channel or an ESPN channel, it should be available through ESPN3 (WatchESPN, whatever it's called) without blackout. Non-conference away games will still be subject to the television coverage of the opposing conference but there is no reason it should be this hard to find an ACC v ACC match up on TV or internet coverage.
