I'm now 61, my dad was a tough fair minded coach and teacher. He busted my ass on more than one occasion and today, I'm better off for it.
And while I have not busted my kids ass, they know I mean business and don't let discipline from others bother them. It's part of growing up. Can't tell you how many people since his passing who played for or were taught by my dad who said they owed him a lot for being a hard ass. It works folks.
