Buzz, A&M and some things to ponder.

I pissed off a lot of you, but also had about the same agree with me, that if Buzz wanted to go to A&M, I've got the boxes to help him pack (remember that?). I thought his end game management was horrible. You have a 3 point lead, you don't let anybody get outside the arc.

Yes, we have had a great year, and I hope it goes on deep into the NCAA tournament. I'm as big a Hokie as any.

But, let's look at some facts for the Buzz disciples. This team pulled off what it did with a 6th year senior (Outlaw), a 5th year senior (Hill), a 4th year junior (Blackshear), a 4th year senior (JRob, or 5, as many like to refer to him), and the only player Tech has ever had that will leave early for the NBA, NAW.

I've seen this before. I enrolled at Tech in 1981. I've seen three other very good teams, and they all had the same thing in common at their peak - experience and chemistry. In the 80's, it was Colbert, Beecher, Young, Young, Curry - guys that all played together for 4 years.

In the 90's, it was Smitty, Ace, Watlington, Goode, Travis Jackson - again, guys just like this team, and the 80's team, they mostly played all 4 years all together.

In the 2000's, Collins, Dowdell and Jamon Gordon did the same thing, with Deron Washington coming along. We have had our only real success by having a lot of great chemistry of getting groups of guys that were together for 4 years.

This year is no different. Yes, Buzz is the best thing we've had in a while, he blows Stokes (maybe the nicest guy I've ever met, even for a Hoo) and James Johnson out of the water. He's a good personality. He is a good coach. He started proving that at Marquette. I assume he is a good person, but I've never met him. I did know Bill Foster, Bobby Hussey and Seth Greenberg, fairly well, each of whom were involved in one of those teams. I haven't been close to the program lately, since I moved out of Blacksburg.

But, let's talk about the big "but."

I'm not sure how much it has been talked about on here. I quite frankly haven't had the time to read the board much, but to those that worry about Buzz going to A&M, I'd suggest you worry in another direction. This testing scandal could blow up, big time.

Yes, I know, we (Whit) issued that statement that said there were 'no connections,' but Whit was being a good AD. He was saying what he had to say, when he had to say it, and how he had to say it. That's public relations. That is half of what an AD does. But that fact of the matter is, a main perp in this was in Cassell, as a guest of Buzz, the last game played in Cassell this season - just before this crap broke, and he was, arrested.

We have a guy that didn't get cleared because of unreasonably high test scores. It will take the feds some while to connect the dots, because they are the feds, and move slow and make sure they have an iron clad case before moving forward.

Personally, I don't think A&M will touch Buzz, because of the timing of this. The timing might have been perfect, with regards to this mess coming out. He may have been, or be, top of their list. But, there is a little bit of a stain out there now. The general Texas area is a different animal, who knows, they may not care.

I just hope it doesn't reach back to Virginia Tech. We were very fortunate a few years back . . .
