have to do much better than that. History is far down the list particularly when the landscape has changed due to conference realignment. Ask yourself why Dixon left? Could it have anything to do with the mess in the athletic administration at Pitt? TCU was not an upgrade and even if it was what would that say about Pitt? You really believe Pitt has superior facilities? Pittsburgh is a metro area but, location is moving down the list as transportation and communication options improve. VT has Pitt in recent history in terms of performance and recruiting. VT's facilities for basketball are at least a push and Hahn-Hurst might even give VT the edge. In terms of stability within the current athletic administration the advantage goes to VT hands down. I certainly do not buy your argument that Pitt is a no brainer choice and I think a reasonable case can be made for VT being better.
