1 team doesn't define a "conference" though even if that team
won the national championship. For example Tenn was the East Division champion and lost to Cal (7-6) by 14 points in the 1st game of the regular season. Auburn lost to South Florida. While Florida lost to Michigan in the bowl. Georgia and LSU were the only ranked SEC schools to go undefeated against non-conference foes. While the other 7 members were not ranked at the end of the season for one reason or another.
The only reason I bring it up is because when people talk about how great the ACC is in basketball, the case is not made on which ACC school wins the NCAAT. It is usually made on how good multiple ACC teams are against the other conferences. Also, I don't disagree with you that the SEC is the best football conference. All I am questioning is how much of a gap there is between the SEC and the other conferences. Personally, I don't think the gap is as wide as people seem to think which is no different than your opinion about the gap the ACC has in basketball.
