What is it that he could've done in 5 years to build up a lasting program?
Basketball is a deeply traditional thing -- UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, UNC, Michigan State didn't build up lasting programs in 5 years -- it was decades and decades of success that created the brand/image/lasting tradition.
Basketball is also highly volatile. It only takes 1-2 great players to make a program relevant -- but great players graduate or leave early and you have to replace them. Think of all the programs that have had ebbs and flows in their success (e.g., Cincinnati under Huggins, Flying Illini under Lou Henson, Illinois again under Bill Self, Butler under Brad Stephens). Those weren't programs that have had truly elite sustained success. It all goes in cycles unless you established a lasting brand/tradition and there are SO FEW programs that have done that.
Expecting Buzz to create something "lasting" in 5 years seems unrealistic to me.
