Of the names that have been mentioned, he's one of my top two.

The other being Wojo, who is a more accomplished coach at this point but one has to wonder at his ability/willingness to compete directly against his mentor.

I started out favoring Cronin, but his pursuit of the UCLA job makes me wonder how much his heart would be in it if he "settled" for VT. Plus, not sure he has the personality to resonate with a fanbase that has gotten used to having a very colorful and high energy coach.

Would obviously love Marshall, but don't think that was ever a real possibility.

Glad Willard is out, too much baggage and just can't see him thinking "this is home", even if he won big at VT.

Odom is a risk for sure, coming from a low major school, but unlike many coaches at that level, he's had plenty of exposure to what it takes to succeed in the ACC. I do like the idea that he, more than many of the other candidates mentioned, might be more interested in building a sustained program at VT, and would be less of another hired gun. And you can't ask for a better mentor than his dad.
