This bball coach saga is an analogy for my long-time employer; past biases

I've been with one, Fortune 300 company for almost 30 years. In the past, we have celebrated years of service here. We always said that if your values were similar to the company's values, then you will stay a long time and enjoy your career. And that worked great for many decades. This strikes me as being like Beamer, and similar to the Young hire.

Over the past 3 years or so, our company has taken a decided turn to hiring outsiders. Corporate management has made it clear that we don't have qualified people inside the company to do what needs to be done in today's world, as our company has grown. We rarely talk about years of service any more. Veteran employees are not happy, overall.

Survey results seem to show that people who have been here a while hate the change. And the new people don't see enough change to stay long. There is grumbling that "people who have only been here 5 minutes are making questionable changes and these people will only stay 10 minutes before moving on to another company."

Meanwhile, our stock is at record highs. And we have a ton of new initiatives underway that are exciting and may grow us even more. If you're an employee you can see how messy it is, but also, you can see a good future.

So which way is better? I'm a long-time employee, but I have to say that, as disruptive as it can be, looking ahead and changing is the better bet. And all the positioning I see around Young seems to be the opposite looking backward vs. forward. Maybe he will work out. But to me, this sounds like we took the easy way based on past biases.
