For last several years, Buzz has searched for opportunities to leave VT.

That has been widely reported, including here on TSL, and it was reported rampantly last year when several of Buzz's assistants bolted for other programs...the writing was clearly on the walls that he was going to leave at the end of this season, and yes, for the entire year, some because he was hoping for a texas opening, some because most of his seniors were leaving, but I think he did have a deal with TA&M. Many have reported that he had discussions with TA&M at end of last year, indicating that it concluded with both parties with something of a wait and see approach for the next year that obviously was confirmed by both TA&M and Buzz at some point during this past season. It's been reported that he told Whit after the ACC tourney, which ended for VT on Thursday March 14. The next day March 15 Texas A&M fired their coach Kennedy. It makes perfect sense that Buzz (who is his own agent and is the ultimate planner and contract negotiator) & TA&M had reached an agreement well before the ACC tournament or before they fired Kennedy and before Buzz told Whit. TA&M had their target and never even looked for a replacement coach. Nobody knew how VT would perform in the NCAA tournament, nor that we would make the sweet 16, but our run probably made things that much harder on Whit, who apparently was still trying to convince Buzz to stay. Buzz has always recruited players to Buzz (not VT) and that's just his style, though I'm sure that's what many coaches do. It is what it is, it's a business.
