More thoughts on honoring Beamer
Hokie1992 responded to the OP by suggesting that the new indoor practice facility be named for Beamer. This has already been done --- The Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility - a mistake IMO, because naming anything else in the future would be just too much, I believe the University rushed their decision to honor Beamer with a mortar & brick facility. A more appropriate and prestigious honor would have been to add his name to the stadium, as I suggested in OP. This would have delayed the recognition, because I do believe the University has a policy that says naming a building must be posthumously. This is a widely accepted practice, because the individual could do something in the remaining years of their life to make them unworthy. Although, I cannot fathom this scenario involving Beamer, it has happened elsewhere. Maybe to offer a more close to home example, what if the University had named a facility or field after Michael Vick? Could have presented somewhat of a sticky wicket. Look what happened at Penn State. [Post edited by Rholladay at 05/04/2019 9:21PM]
