... the team actually had the underlying bones of something great, especially on defense. Despite some spotty play that resulted in a choppy end to the season (and a loss to UVa!), that ship was rightable. In fact, that ship got righted in the bowl game and the seeds of 1999 were ready to go.

In 2018 VT was so far from that condition it's laughable. There will not be a 1999 follow-up this year.
