At the half the star ND RB had done literally nothing on the ground. The halftime score was 17-16 in favor of the Irish. The Hokies begin the second half with the ball and wouldn't you know, they do nothing. The Irish get the ball and the RB breaks a 97 yard TD on a Farley whiff. The rest is history.

All other games on the schedule, with the exception of ODU, GT, and Pitt have similar stories. The defense was historically bad, and I'm not making excuses. But if the offense can simply generate first downs in the second half, I'm not sure things look the same.
