Even though I like Cassell for the most part (not fond of the steepness

of the steps in the upper section), VT may end up spending more money renovating Cassell (including bringing the building up to current codes) over time than it would cost to build a brand new arena that could be better suited for other uses during the year. Also, if VT wants to make significant renovations to Cassell, then it may require gutting sections or even the entire arena which could impact where teams play their home games until the renovations are complete.

Since money is an issue at VT, I would hope that Babcock has a well thought out plan (regardless of which direction he goes) on how VT plans to spend the money. At least I don't want to see VT spend money on renovations only to find out down the road that the renovations have a much shorter useful life than originally planned. Basically additional round of renovations or renovating/upgrading "recent" renovations (relatively speaking).
