I'm in the minuscule minority that thinks we will have double digit wins.

We all know Fuente is a former QB, with an offense- first mind. His recruiting has been all about getting guys that can impact the passing game since the first day he got here. He announced that he wanted, what?...a 12 deep at receiver? As fans, when hearing that, we had a collective jaw drop. "WTF?", probably came to mind for most. When have we had more than 3 or 4 serviceable guys there? (My answer: once) And how can we carry all of that on an 85 man roster??? Nonetheless... he followed through on his plan, and we are currently crazy stacked in that department. In addition, and in another unheard of twist for long term VT fans, is that the O-line has sneaked in there to be a strength now, as well - thanks to (semi-god) Vice. The fact of the matter is that we are set up to be an offensive juggernaut for years to come - just mind boggling. And I think it is going to explode starting this September. All of this is totally against the grain for long time Hokie fans, and most cannot grasp the importance of the shift - and a shift of focus to offense is huge right now . I think that most, when guessing win totals for next year, think of our weakness on D, and get depressed. Traditionally, good defense = wins to VT fans; it's all we've ever known. But times are a changing - rapidly.

The trend of the game overall has been favoring the offense for a long time now, and we are poised to take advantage of that. Is Fuente about to prove his prescience? Hmmm...I know where I stand. Most of us are still clinging to the idea that a great defense is our birthright. But if you are not allowed to hit anybody, what good is it, really, to have a great D? As it is now, a QB can hold the ball fearlessly with 300+lb DLs barreling in on him because they are going to get flagged every dang time if they can't miraculously slam on the brakes and avoid contact. It is frustrating as hell, and most of us are beside ourselves with these targeting penalties.

It is apparent to me, that offense is the name of the game now. And we have to accept that as fans. The game is no longer about hard hitting and toughness. It's going to be a whole lot of pitch and catch, and shirt tackles. The good news is, Fuente has us poised to
excel in this new landscape, and I am highly optimistic this is going to be a huge year for us. It's still football, kinda - haha...but one saying still hasn't changed - "Just win, baby!". We are going to do just that.
