If it wasn't for Michael Vick, we would always
Be a subpar 6 to 7 win team. His success in 1999 carried Beamer for the next decade with a recruiting bump. Once the limelight wore off, Beamer was never able to replicate it and spent another 6 years on a farewell tour with his coaching assistants running the program into the ground.
Fuente hasn't been able to right the ship. We had a golden opportunity between 2004-2008 to really cement the program but instead of taking it to the next level, we chose to enjoy the run and completely lost focus on the recruiting track.
As much as I blame Fuente for this mess, Beamer is the bigger issue. He should have been fired after the 2005 Miami debacle in Lane.
