Still a very young team...

and still a team that has significant talent gaps. Recruiting seems to be our problem and roster management/retention as well.

Fu has not had a second year QB until now but had 2 really good seasons with first year starters. Willis is not good at reading D, goes through progressions some but not much and can't execute RPO, and is an avg. D1 athlete. When you lack a tailback and have a young/mediocre oline you better have a dynamic QB, we don't.

Some of that is coaching. Willis should not turn the ball over repeatedly when the coach values ball security first and foremost. More, it is recruiting. If you are known as a QB developer why don't we have a very talented QB in yr. 4? Why do we not have a TB in yr. 4? Why did we get essentially no good D tackles for 3 years? Why don't we have at least one D end who can cause some havoc? Why is our D leader of backup skill level? The answer to all of that is lack of talent. Fu and staff seem to evaluate ok as some younger players look pretty good but it takes a long time and excellent evaluation, development and roster mgt to keep putting upper class laden teams on the field. We don't have that system and we can't grab enough 4 and 5 start talent to overcome it.

I thought next year would be Fu's year but instead the qB of the future is now third string behind a guy who wanted to transer and we will break in a new defense the next couple of years. I was a FU fan but the recruiting, mostly, has killed us.
