Observations about the run game

First, the RPO is not RW best facet. I think he is a good runner, but he doesn't have the feel for the mesh. Second, the best thing we have are really good young receivers, but I don't think most WR in HS get much practice in securing a running lane. It's just isn't what is taught and if it is taught they haven't learned. That means the RB sweeps and the jet sweeps will not work well. Third, after JJ went down last year, I think JF and BC finally came to the conclusion that running a QB isn't what will win games for us. It's too risky with out current QB situation. Yesterday is a prime example, RW got his bell rung a little on the fumble play.To protect him, they inserted HH. I didn't expect him to throw the ball or to rack up first downs, but I did expect him to manage the clock. Leaving 15 to 20 seconds on the play clock in the under 4:00 drill, was unacceptable. I think all the stars that HH and QP amassed in HS did not tell the story on either kid. Both are raw, really raw. So why not play them? Because we haven't had the margins. Another reason may be is we don't have a trustworthy RB. I think we "burned" a lot of plays yesterday trying to see if DMC could carry the load. I don't think he can; too small for a power back, too slow for a scat back and can't run in a zone blocking scheme. It's game 2 and we have 40% of our young stating line out and half of the available backs out (guys like Gray, Beck and Holston). Finally, the line is still a work in progress. Right now, I'd rather have them protecting RW in the passing game. Like it or not the 8 stars invested in HH and QP aren't shining yet
