Thoughts On The New PA Announcer For Hokies Football?

I did not attend the ODU game on Saturday, but my friends said that we have a new PA Announcer for Lane Stadium.

It appears that Bill McChain - long time PA Announcer was forced out, per his daughter's post in The Real Hokie Nation Facebook Group:

Since this group is about the Hokie Nation...I would like to give a shout-out to my dad who was your PA announcer at Lane stadium for the last 20 years—this past week was the first home game he has not announced since 1998. He only missed one game due to a cancelled flight in all those years. He would go early hours before the game to learn the pronunciations of the opposing team and of course, always knew our team well. He didn't leave by choice, he was just told they were changing game day. I understand seasons change, but I will miss his professionalism, and most of all his voice! I think for all those years of dedication he at least deserves a proper farewell! Love you dad!

I am really going to miss Bill. He was a huge part of the gameday experience, and one of the constant voices we had. Burnop is now the only 'voice' left from past years.

I met Bill back in 2009 - though just for a brief introduction, he embodied everything it means to be a Hokie. I'll miss hearing his "First Down, HOKIES" calls for sure. I've been to other stadiums - and have heard some very bad announcing (Penn State takes the cake for this one) where the PA Announcer talks way too much. Bill had the perfect balance, giving enough information, but keeping it brief to let the other pieces of the atmosphere take over.

Bill McChain, a true Hokie.
