2 scenarios
If VT wants to be included in Group 1 (the preferred group), then 7 wins (assuming VT also beats Rhode Island). Conference bowl tie-ins are still a factor for Group 1.
If VT is in Group 2, then 6 wins even if both are against the FCS schools. The only way teams can go to a bowl game from Group 2 is if there are not enough eligible teams in Group 1. Then teams get selected based on a pecking order determined by the team's APR. At least I believe conference bowl tie-ins are no longer a factor when it gets to this level.
