I assume HH improved during the first half of the season, while Willis regressed. Moreover, our entire team is comprised of underclassmen- HH would have had to play with that crew on day 1 too.

We were bad early in the season due to inexperience across the board. I’m struggling to imagine how HH would have beaten BC having no passing experience.

Young teams improve dramatically with playing experience. That is as much responsible for our recent success as the QB switch.
