I don't really have a Charlie Moir "story" per se....
In doing my "Year of Our Discontent" series in the mid-2000s, Page Moir reached out to me and introduced himself via email. I drove to Roanoke College and met with him, and he dished me some material for that series.
Page and I stayed in touch, and eventually, he hooked me up with his dad, whom I had never met. In the summer of 2012, I met Page and Charlie for breakfast in Salem (IIRC -- I don't remember exactly where). Page introduced us, and the three of us had breakfast. After that, Page went his way, and Charlie and I went back to Charlie's house. I interviewed him for a while, just sitting on the couch in his living room and chatting.
Having never met me, Charlie was nevertheless very forthcoming and honest. I was looking over the series that came out of that interview, and in addition to the "Mike Slive is a damned dog" quote, Charlie was very honest about, for example, Perry Young. "Perry was tough to coach. A lot of people don’t know that. He was a good player, but I called him in the office one time and asked him where he wanted to transfer."
Looking back, it was a fascinating, interesting interview, and Charlie held nothing back. I really appreciated that.
