Some observations about the offense.

I thought the play calling was good. It was about the same as it’s been all season (since HH has entered the picture). A lot of QB Power, read-option, and jet sweeps. What was different was our ability to execute those bread and butter plays. When that stuff is working, play action works. When play Passing game starts to work, the screen game can function.

People act as if there is a bunch of “magic” plays that great play callers call. I don’t see that. I see teams that are successful on offense are able to establish their bread and butter stuff and that allows them to keep the D off balance with all the complementary stuff.

We’ve been better offensively because of HH. That’s allowed ya to execute the basics and then attack once the defense over commits to defending the bread and butter stuff.

But was the playcalling any better against GT than ND? No. ND just had the ability to stop more of what we wanted to do. It happens.

This is meant as both a compliment if Cornelsen and also a recognition that the OC/playcalling is never as good or as bad as many want to believe. It comes down to execution. If you can execute the bread and butter stuff, EVERYTHING opens up.
