the sport. The national media focus too heavily on the playoff race and not enough on the conference championship race. If you start expanding the playoffs you run into a different problem. When highly ranked teams play each other it doesn't matter because they are only playing for seeding. When an undefeated team suffers a big upset it doesn't matter. They will easily make it.
