I didn't really follow or become a fan of VT basketball until I enrolled there in 2001. So my first hand VT basketball knowledge is limited to that point forward. There were a couple of in conference upsets while in the Big East, and numerous ones since joining the ACC, but I couldn't think of any huge out of conference upsets that VT pulled off. Beating a ranked OK St in JJ's first year was pretty cool at the time, but that season is a forgettable one for sure. Beating Purdue last year was cool, too, but wouldn't call that one a huge upset.
So my questions for you pre-2001 basketball historians....If VT pulls an MTSU-like upset over Michigan St on Monday, where would that rank in Hokie's history of out of conference wins? What are other big out of conference wins from back in the day?
