Agreed, but my point is that I think Fuente had to consider...

...the timing as it pertained to whether he should pursue the opportunity. I recognize he did not establish the timeline, but I do think the timeline should have played a considerable part in his decision making. I'm not trying to take a "holier than thou" stance, but I know the timing would have played a large role for me had I been faced with similar circumstances. If for no other reason than to protect myself in my current situation should the new opportunity not pan out in the form of a job offer. Fuente had to realize this would get leaked, and once it did, it would result in some backlash in Blacksburg.

Moreover, I've never wanted to burn bridges, not because I fear I may need to cross back over later in life, but more so because I care about the people in my life and the way that my actions affect them. I'm not saying that Fuente DOESN'T care, or that he was out to intentionally screw anyone over, but had he left VT this week, that's essentially what he would have done. I think the idea that he was either unaware of the impact his actions might have, or that he was willing to allow that to play out is what rubbed many people the wrong way.

Again, if he really did not pursue the Baylor opening this week and all of this was a rumor that got out of control, then I'll be the first to apologize for jumping to conclusions. If that's the case, I hope either Fuente or Babcock will set the record straight.
