It’s all quite simple....

Fuente has very little charisma, so he does not connect well with the media, fans, and general public. Bluntly, he is largely a non-factor in the atmosphere that is college football. With that said, nobody would care if he could do two things: (1) recruit and (2) win.

His recruiting is about on par with his personality: basic. There has been little-to-no-excitement in that arena which leads us to winning....

His winning has been on par with his personality as well: average. If we were Wake Forest, Fuente would be a stud. Instead, we are Virginia Tech, a perennial top-15 team that has played for a national championship. Fuente was supposed to be the offensive force that took us over the hump that Beamer could not. Well, that hasn’t happened. Instead, we are buried deeper into irrelevance.

I’m happy that more players are getting behind Fuente. That is counter to his earlier coaching days at VT. However, at the end of the day, I worry less about who he is as a person and more on his ability to recruit and win......
