I was thinking about my projections for 2020 (12-0) and thought it would be

interesting to break the team down into the various position groups. I ranked them based on what I think the impact on the season will be from biggest impact to lesser impact.

#1 Offensive line - Layered Depth, size, experience, and talent (Dominating Force)
#2 Quarterbacks - Lots of Talent and athleticism, modest experience, good game management
#3 Runningbacks - Lots of talent, modest experience, good competition
#4 Linebackers - Good talent, experience, and decent depth
#5 Secondary - Good talent, experience, and some dynamic players
#6 Receivers - Some great talent and some experience, lots of potential up and comers
#7 Defensive line - Some experience and talent, good competition from new Youth
#8 Tight Ends - Good Talent, Good competititon
#9 Special Teams - Continutes to improve as a strength

The processes of breaking the team down and looking at players in each of the groups is interesting because it helps when thinking about what the overall team in 2020 will look like.

From my analysis so far, I think the 2020 version of the Hokies may have one of the strongest running games in Virginia tech history. Having a big, strong, talented, and very experienced offensive line will open holes large enough to drive a team bus through, and buy time for VT mobile qbs to find open players or run for first downs. Combining that with a stable of athletic ball carriers, will produce large amounts of rushing yards through-out the 2020 season. The ability to lean on a strong running game will ease pressure on our quarterbacks, as they get comfortable under center. This will cause defenses to commit not only to stopping a mobile quarterback, but in stopping a running game, which will open up more opportunites for receivers and tight ends in the passing game. I suspect the coaching staff will attempt to keep the offense balanced by working hard on the passing game, but it will be obvious that running plays will be the largest strength of this offense.

Having a stronger running game also aids the defense in longer and more sustainable offensive drives, keeping our defense fresh for 4 quarters. Having a strong secondary and linebacker crew will help slow down opposing offenses, and aid the up and coming pass rush for VT in dialing in on opposing quarterbacks. I think the overall VT defense will take a solid step forward in 2020, and develop into a strong VT Defense (like we remember) that will be in championship form by November.

By season end, (unfortunately for Hoos around the world) VT will have a simply ferocious offense coupled with a championship defense. This VT team will be peaking just as the Hoos pay a visit to Lane stadium. Unfornately for those silly Wahoos, waiting for them will be a top 10 Virginia Tech team, sitting on an 11-0 season, with 1 game to cap the first perfect 12-0 season for Virginia Tech. Of course, all Hokie players will be thinking about is revenge for last season's loss.

My sincere hope is that no Hoos that enter Lane in 2020 are seriously injured when the hoos get completely crushed and demoralized on National TV.

Go Hokies!
