To expound on this...

MYs point guards get the ball out of their hand earlier in the shot clock than most PGs, so needijg a ball handler isnt as much of a pressing need. What you cant be is one-dimensional. That includes being one-dimensional defensively (Bede) or offensively (Cone)

Both Cone and Bede are best utilized on a roster where they can be role players with a defined role for specific situations. Cone should play in any games where VT is down or the opposing PG isnt a scoring threat. Bede should play in games where VT is protecting a lead or the opposing PG is a big scoring threat. Neither of them should be averaging starter's minutes.

Thats why Cattoor, Alleyne, Bamisile and Maddox could all play PG (even Radford in a specific lineup) and be ok. They get the ball out of their hands and become playmakers along the baseline and wing anyway, all 4 can defend better than Cone and all 4 are much better shooting/scoring options than Bede.

Grabbing a new PG solves something that was never the problem. Youre taking away potential minutes from the strength of VTs roster (the wings) and taking scholarships from VTs biggest need (big bodies).

We have been a little spoiled in this freshmen class. Not every class will have a 100% rate on good players. You miss from time to time. If you have 2 scholarships, both scholarships need to go to bigs and hope that one of them is a hit. If both of them are a hit then you are set for the next 3 years at the position. If you take 1 PG and 1 big, and the big isnt a hit. Youve just screwed yourself for 2+ years.

I cannot emphasize enough how much VT should not grab a PG, no matter how good you think he might be (unless there is 3+ attrition)
