One problem basketball has is that
there is too much scoring. There is a score about every 2 minutes in basketball even if you average in timeouts and halftime. It become monotonous. Conversely, there is only about a score an hour in professional soccer, making it monotonous as well. Football, baseball, and hockey seem to find a good middle ground with a score about every 20 minutes or so. In my case, that is frequent enough to keep me interested but not so frequent that it becomes monotonous.
