VT Recruiting Questions

DD's "2 and 3 star comments" prompted me to ask about about recruiting thoughts that have been lingering in my head. First off, it was disappointing to lose a solid recruit, but to me, it manly sucked because any 2021 recruiting momentum definitely ended. Well, it ended way before that, but it is amazing that his verbal did not springboard us into signing more, and a higher level of, recruits. I apologize to the "everything is grand" and "trust the coaches" fans, but the 2020 recruiting season was a disaster (for various reasons). I had hoped that the new coaching blood would get things rolling for 2021. Not sure if it's due to the COVID craziness (not having spring practices, recruits can't come to campus, etc.), but so far things are still pretty "ho-hum."

Anyway, first question - has VT pretty much thrown in the towel in going after the 4 star players out there? We often swung and missed, but I remember our recruiting battles being against Clemson, AL, OSU, etc. Recent recruiting battles have us competing against the likes of ODU, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Akron, etc. Lately, we haven't been in the running for any of the top 10 from VA, and UNC and their fake classes have basically kicked us out of North Carolina. Thus, is going after the 2's and 3's a more realistic approach for us? Did we think that we were wasting our time recruiting against the blue bloods?

Our current level of players and coaches will provide positive results for the next couple of years. My concern is that if we stay at the 2 and 3 star recruiting level, the future is mediocre at best. I know, VT was never the gem of the the recruiting world, but can it improve even slightly? Or, do you see our recruiting prowess decline?
