Sad to hear this news on Pat Dye - good coach.

I have to at least wonder what might have been had we gotten Pat Dye rather than Jimmy Sharpe? Legend has it (pretty sure it’s accurate) after Charlie Coffey was let go, we reached out to Bear Bryant for a new coach. We got Jimmy Sharpe and Pat Dye went to East Carolina.

As an up and coming Hokie fan I vaguely remember Sharpe and the Bobby Bowden “daggummut” type answers on why this or that didn’t go right.

What might have been. Dye comes to Blacksburg and Sharpe to Greenville NC.

Any other older Hokies please chime in and fill in or edit as I am going from memory and that was nearly 50 years ago.
