The only time Ive been on a staff with a kid who has redshirted has been someone who it was specifically communicated when they were recruited that they would likely redshirt (or transfers)...and none of those players ever finished their career at the same school

The addition of Mutts changes nothing wrt minutes distribution pre-PJ...I could see Mutts and Pemsl balancing minutes together, and Ojiako and Aluma gaining more minutes

Ive seen Maddox's name thrown around as a redshirt candidate which is just not going to happen (unless he has a season ending injury)...you dont redshirt top 100 kids, especially top 100 guards, if you ever want to land another one.

If Cattoor or Alleyne are receptive to a redshirt, theyre the most likely candidates, but just realize it greatly increases their chances they will not finish their career at Virginia Tech, so thinking youre gonna redshirt a kid and have him as a seasoned 5th year senior isnt likely to happen.

The reason why I constantly harp on using all 13 scholarships is because injuries are always going to happen. You cant predict what position theyll happen. You cant predict how long someone will be out. Having 13 scholarship players is a means to fool-proof your lineup.

How many people have to get hurt before VT is in a position like they were last year?

Aluma would have to get hurt
N'Guessan would have to get hurt
Pemsl would have to get hurt

Then youd have Ojiako and a 6'7 4-man as your only post options...like last season

But what happens if just Aluma gets hurt? The other 4 are perfectly fine, and you can tweak things schematically to hide deficiencies.

What happens if Bamisile re-injures his leg? Maddox, Alleyne, Cone, Diarra and Cattoor are much better than Cone, Alleyne and Cattoor.

What happens if Bede tears an ACL?

Diarra, Cone, Cattoor, Bamisile are all better options than just Cone last season.

VT for the first time since Pre-Buzz is very versatile in their lineup options. Now they just have to find themselves within the system and get older and gain experience.

If you can find a way to use each of the 13 players, you will reap the rewards 2 seasons from now
