Clemson won their first national championship under Dabo in 2016. Their previous five recruiting classes were ranked:

2012: No. 20 (zero 5-stars)
2013: No. 15 (one 5-star)
2014: No. 16 (zero 5-stars)
2015: No. 9 (three 5-stars)
2016: No. 11 (one 5-star)
Average: No. 14 (one 5-star per class)

The three recruiting classes that formed the backbone of Clemson's first NC (2012-2014) had an average ranking of No. 17 and had a whopping one 5-star recruit.

UNC's current 2021 recruiting ranking: No. 3 (one 5-star)

So, yeah, keep recruiting like they are this year, and UNC can talk about being in the national championship picture. They're certainly recruiting at that level.

I hate to keep banging this drum, but the amount of whistling past the graveyard that Hokie fans do when they talk about UNC is troubling.

Put another way, if Virginia Tech had the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation, what would Hokie fans -- and recruits -- be saying?

Now, making fun of their "academics" -- that's cool with me. They earned that. 😉
