Whether to play and whether to go given Covid
will ultimately come down to a risk assessment. And, there is risk being in a crowd right now, whether it’s protesting or cheering on the Hokies.
You take a risk each time you drive your car and 40,000 people last year didn’t make it back home.
If you are really risk averse, I can promise you not driving or riding in a car will insure you are not a fatality. I can also guarantee you will not get Covid in Lane Stadium if you stay home.
The growing debate will increase as to what levels of risk are tolerable and who is willing to take them. 25 years in Tampa, each time I drew a club back, clear sky or not, lightning was a chance. Boating in the bay, Bull Sharks were a chance.
So, what type and level or risk each person is willing to take and what society will tolerate will play hugely in any upcoming event - concert, sports and work, everything.
I don’t want anyone to perish - zero. What we each do going forward will continue to be very personal in nature and opinions not easily swayed.
If the Hokies were playing today and there was a good seat available sort of off by myself, I’d go. But, I could also understand someone else saying, hell no or no way. My risk tolerance for that decision just happens to be different. Doesn’t make me crazy and doesn’t make you a chicken.
Go Hokies!
