'Redskins' was never going to survive, but this will not end here...


That name has been dying a slow death since the Harjo TTAB trademark challenge. Harjo spent decades riling up the native American population - the majority of whom rarely if ever cared or thought about pro football - into being offended, and then went to work invalidating the trademark. It was the right decision but man you have to wonder how people have so much free time.

And the rationale behind Harjo could be used to launch all kinds of frivolous suits - Minnesota Vikings, look out! We have internalized so many words that are far more inflammatory in origin than 'redskins'. Now there is a cottage industry digging up the etymology of just about every term in use today in order to identify a way to be offended.

I would bet that some will have a negative reaction to a vanilla name like 'Warriors' due to its connotations of toxic masculinity.
