Are a blue blood having guys who played for your program as coaches makes a material difference when it comes to recruiting and retaining the good ones.

The reason why Dre Bly at UNC won’t jump ship to another program is because he played for UNC. And I think he only leaves UNC for an NFL job.

coach TG would have left VT earlier for another school had he not been a former player.

I’d argue the reason we retain Tapp longer than normal is because he is a former player. And yes I realize he hasn’t been through a season yet.

Don’t get me wrong, not all former coaches pan out and Cornell brown comes to mind but it’s a risk worth taking.
