Obviously, it’s not a choice of being pro or anti life.

People who frame things that way do so only in an attempt to force people into a position not based on reason but on fear of judgment.

If one is truly concerned with health and safety, then he will also consider the risks to health and safety of shutting down football, shutting down schools (or going online), shutting down communities, etc. For example, those in favor of all online k-12 schooling who make silly statements like “we have to put the safety of our children first” seem to ignore the fact that the health and safety of our children depend on their parents having stable, income earning homes which is much harder to achieve, particularly for the poorest among us, when one parent has to stay home to oversee the kids schooling. Likewise, what about the health and safety of all those people who will lose jobs if football is not played. We’re talking about tens of thousands of people whose lives will be seriously disrupted? Does that really not matter at all, particularly in light of the relatively low risk if serious problems for the college age population?

If every public health and safety issue were dealt with by setting a goal of eliminating risk entirely, out society would be in a permanent state of shut down. That makes zero sense. Sure, it may still be that the prudent decision is to shut it down. But I sincerely hope it’s not done because of some sentiment like “what about the health and safety of our kids?”. It should be based on a rationale weighing of the risks and probabilities for all who stand to be affected by such a decison, including the coaches, the athletic department staff, the university and it’s finances, to towns in which those schools are based, etc. and the solution should be as targeted as possible to those at the highest risk so as not to harm the other innocent people who get swept up in the remedy.

No matter where someone lands on this issue, its total BS to call them anti life or suggest for the slightest moment that the person is somehow immoral just for holding a different viewpoint from oneself. This is precisely the thing that needs to stop the most right now in out society. There should be room for people to have diverging views on things.
