What does SAFE mean?

Is it safe to drive a vehicle? Is it safe to snowboard? Is it safe to swim? Well, it's clearly safer not to do any of those things as people die from those activities, but the risk of injury or death as a percentage of experiences is still very low if precautions are taken.

I would think with college football, it's probably 1 M&M out of thousands that might kill you due to Covid. Is that an acceptable level of risk? Is it comparable to the risk of playing the sport itself? Some will say 1 critical injury is too much, but the reality is all life experiences have risk.

Ultimately, statistics should drive decisions. That said, playing contact sports will certainly increase the spread, possibly impacting more susceptible members of the community. Is that worse than the economic impact to the community and players (who aspire to be professional)?
