Researchers estimate that each year, 1,519 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 die from alcohol-related unintentional injuries, including motor-vehicle crashes. It is not indicated how many of those deaths are alcohol poisoning, but it would be surmised to be less than 1,000, since vehicle crashes from alcohol use are most prevalent.
Most cases of death by alcohol are self-inflicted. Covid is something that someone can inflict upon you. Both can be mitigated by proper avoidance methods.
