$0.02 on defense...

We straight up got beat by UNC's offense. They softened us up with the quick passing game, got our DL rushing up field and then came back in with the running game where our lineman were vacating and wore us out. A little late for Monday morning QB but I'll still try.

1) Get back to what made VT great:
Man, press coverage for 80% of the game with winning matchups. Should have had 3 corners on the field for most of the game against UNC. Play a safety deep (especially to the dyami browns, Zay Flowers side this week) but beat them one-on-one on the outside and commit more resources to the run.

2) Play your best 11 available players (athletes) on defense adapted to their offense:
For UNC it should have been Waller, Taylor, Chatman playing press on WR's at corner. Conner & Walker/Thompson (Diablo now) at deep safety. Figure out your best LB's right now, if it's Artis and Tisdale then play them or move a running back or something. Play run stuff lineman when they're likely to run (Fuga & Hewitt), and pash rushers when it's second & long or third down (Pollard & Kendrick). Stop the dogmatic "Position" talk; it's friggin defense. Beat the guy in front of you and hit the guy with the ball.

3) If depth & conditioning is a problem, strategize PT in a way that gives 3 instead of 7 pts.. Ex: play starters for a quick 3 and out and if that doesn't happen, play backups until the red zone and then put in your fresh players.

4) Other stuff I can't even think of.

Go Hokies!
