Anyone nervous about next game, pump the brakes on how good Liberty is

Yes, Liberty has some weapons, especially on offense. That starts with former VT commit Malik Willis at QB. They can score on you, and currently stand unbeaten at 6-0.

But before anyone starts having a fit about how they're going to upset us, take a look at who Liberty has played. All kidding aside, they may have played the easiest schedule in the history of college football. Their six opponents' records thus far is a combined 4-28. Here's how Liberty's season has gone so far:

Game 1: they just got by Western Kentucky 30-24. WKU is currently 2-5, with both wins coming by 3 points over MTSU and Chattanooga. Not good.

Game 2: the Flames eked out a 36-34 victory over FIU. The Panthers are quite possibly the worst team in FBS, standing 0-3 with additional losses to Middle Tennessee and Jacksonville State.

Game 3: Liberty beat a bad FCS team in North Alabama. UNA is 0-2 on the year, with their other loss also coming vs Jacksonville State.

Game 4: LU smashed UL-Monroe 40-7. ULM is literally the worst team in the nation, currently sporting an 0-7 record and holding down the #1 ranking in ESPN's Bottom 10.

Game 5: In their most impressive win, the Flames went up to Syracuse and burned the Orange, 38-21. Cuse is a stellar 1-6, with their only win coming against hapless Georgia Tech, and were last seen getting utterly destroyed at home vs Wake.

Game 6: Liberty beats Southern Miss 56-35. USM is currently 1-5 and probably qualifies for the Coaching Dumpster Fire of the Century this season. Quick recap: the Golden Eagles lost their home opener vs South Alabama, after which head coach Jay Hopson was immediately fired. Their interim coach Scott Walden got COVID and missed the Liberty game then quit during his quarantine to take the head coaching job at Austin Peay. That left their nicklebacks coach (apparently there is such a thing) Tim Billings to coach them vs Liberty. They were last seen yesterday getting stomped at home by Rice 30-6.

So... yeah. Liberty is 6-0. But they've beaten the most motley assortment of stumblin' bumblin' squads this side of the Bad News Bears. We'll see how they do, now that they finally play a team with a pulse in the 7th game of the season.

Go Hokies!
