Also, it seems there are two schools of though on the 3rd and manageable calls. One is to rely on your strength. Do what you do and make the other team stop you. This would seem to satisfy the “we don’t get Herbert the ball enough” crowd.

The other school of thought is to surprise the opponent and keep them off guard. Take what they are giving you, even if it isn’t what we do best. If the opponent is stacking the box and selling out to stop the read option, then we have to be willing to take a shot against 1:1 coverage on 3rd and 2.
